at Jacob's Mission Community Center
Our mission is to provide free, trauma-informed out-of-school programs that help improve school achievement and workforce readiness for at-risk children and youth. We do this through tutoring, extracurricular activities, trade skills classes, transition to adulthood programs, mentorship, free meals, and essential resources such as groceries, clothing, and other basic necessities.
Our After School programs keep children safe, inspiring learning, and give working parents peace of mind. They help students grow, thrive and reach their full potential by offering enriching opportunities that support success both in school and in life while also empowering community members to volunteer and make a lasting impact on the lives of at-risk youth.
01/22
School-aged children from at-risk populations find consistency and caring support from volunteers who freely give time and resources to show that Arizona children matter. Our current volunteers and interns have gone through our Trauma Informed Trainings. All adult volunteers must have a current background check.
Each Semester, we are offer after school Tutoring/Homework assistance and a variety of extracurricular activity classes. Please note that tutoring and/or an extra curricular activity are 45 minutes long. Extracurricular activities such as dance, musical theater, art, piano, guitar, karate, yoga and cooking lessons give children and youth opportunities to develop talents and learn new ways to express themselves as they heal.
Jacob’s Mission Community Center holds a 3 hour workshop to provide guidance and tools to help teens and young adults transition to responsible, independent adulthood.
Topics covered include cooking skills and eating on a budget, obtaining vital health & medical records, obtaining a driver’s license or state ID, obtaining health insurance, college or post-secondary education plan, career development, resume writing, mock interviews, getting a job, paying or planning for taxes when employed, renting a room or apartment, buying a car, financial literacy, building and maintaining a personal budget, opening a bank account, relationship management, family planning, volunteering and giving back to your community, mental health and well-being, physical health and hygiene!
